The
project guarantees medical care to the people living in the
area of Lower Shebelle by restarting activities at the regional
Merka hospital, supplying equipment and medicines and intervention
in Brava, Quorioley, Kurtun Warey and Genale districts. At
present, the PHC (Primary Health Care) services concern 4
out of 8 districts in the region. In the most recent phase
of the project were implemented curative and preventive activities
against cholera, malaria and measles. As a consequence of
floods that took place during the latest months of 1997, the
project was confronted, and positively responded to, some
dramatic nutritional emergencies.
