This
project carries on the previous COSV experience in this area,
ongoing since 1994 through the implementation of several Health
programmes. By the management of one PHC Center and 7 PHC
Units, more than 80.000 persons are being helped with the
supply of basic health services, mother and child health services,
nutritional assistance for malnourished children and interventions
in water and sanitation sectors. In this project, COSV area
of intervention is wider and the needs of other populations
of the area are being met, with 30.000 new beneficiaries.
The steady presence of expatriate personnel, playing a fundamental
role in training the Sudanese local staff, and the management
of supplementary services to those normally offered by a basic
health project (as the opening of a analysis laboratory),
underline the rehabilitation/development characteristics of
this project, implemented in a region under "chronic
emergency" since decades.
