Action
is directed towards a population of about 170,000 inhabitants
who had never had any contacts with humanitarian aid before.
Two PHC centres were finalized in Nyal, and 8 PHC-Units were
started in Pathiel, Gakal, Lualy, Bilcier, Bilbar, Mjak, Tharbar,
Youb. Several wells and latrines were built, and "committees
for village health co-ordination" were set up within
the project framework. Training courses are regularly organized
for primary health care staff. Visits are now settled at 1,100
patients per month in the PHC Centre in Nyal and an average
of 600 patients for each of the PHC Units. Activities include
the prevention programme named "Guinea worm eradication
programme" realised in collaboration with the Carter
Centre.
More recently, after an assessment on the nutritional status
of the under five years old children, a supplementary feeding
programme was started in collaboration with UNICEF-OLS.
