The COSV Statute, which had remained substantially unchanged from the original 1968 version, apart from minor amendments, has undergone three major revisions.
The first took place following a process of review and adaptation lasting approximately two years and carried out in consultation with the association’s members. The new version, approved in 2006, introduced the gradual opening of the Board of Directors to the contribution of external board members, the establishment of new supervisory bodies and, more generally, greater attention to transparency in decision-making processes and in relations with stakeholders.
The second revision, in 2010, introduced additional control mechanisms required for the recognition of legal personality, which was subsequently granted to COSV by the Prefecture of Milan. On that occasion, it was also necessary to officially change the organisation’s name from “Comitato di Coordinamento delle Organizzazioni per il Servizio Volontario” to “Coordinamento delle Organizzazioni per il Servizio Volontario”.
The third revision, currently in force and approved in December 2025, was also carried out in order to align the Statute with the regulations governing the Third Sector. The new Statute was in fact instrumental in obtaining registration in the RUNTS (National Single Register of the Third Sector). Since 29 January 2026, COSV has been officially registered in the RUNTS and has therefore acquired the status of Third Sector Entity (ETS).
