Immigration and asylum. From the Ministry of the Interior’s plan to the Government’s programme

Seen the important novelties on the immigration (and, in particular, asylum seekers flows) management suggested by the Ministry Marco Minnitti, NGOs belonging to Link2007 network aim to help founding the best practices, looking at the situation also in a long-term perspective.
«We do that – affirms Paolo Dieci, the network’s President – starting from our experience in international cooperation and humanitarian aid, from our knowledge of the departing countries, their cultures, migrants’ aspirations, the difficulties that they found in terms of inclusion and integration, the problems that can be created by their presence in communities that are not adequately prepared to host them».

Link2007 document presents, by schematic and synthetic points, some proposals for a comprehensive government policy strategy (not limited to security and public order dimensions), accompanied by the suggestion of operative/normative choices in the management of migrations driven by job research but also forced by wars, persecutions or natural disasters.
«We think that the matter has to be treated with a uniform strategy and a comprehensive political view, by adopting short, middle and long term measures, according to the urgency, the complexity and the difficulties», highlights Nino Sergy, Link2007 policy advisor, that has driven the drawing up of the document. «We hope that the document will provide useful elements to encourage further debates and reflections for the definition of normative choices that will reconcile all political forces».

This proposal, in particular, is addressed to the Chairman of the Board, the Interior Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Minister of Labour and Social Policy, the relevant Parliamentary Committees, the Majors, the Presidents of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, the associations, the institutions and sector’s operators.
