HARETNA: COMMUNITY-LED RECOVERY OF LEBANESE URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS
The HARETNA project aims to promote the economic recovery of neighborhoods in Greater Beirut, Tripoli, and Sidon, and to reduce gender inequalities by strengthening social cohesion, improving access to essential services, protecting rights, and enhancing livelihoods.
The project will therefore improve the living conditions and local development of three urban neighborhoods selected due to the high vulnerability of their inhabitants and the importance of coexistence issues among communities.
We expect to achieve three main outcomes:
-
An improvement in the living conditions of the most vulnerable residents in the neighborhoods (Lebanese, refugee communities—especially Syrians) by strengthening their inclusive access to essential urban services and infrastructure.
-
A strengthening of social cohesion among members of different communities, enabling families to claim their rights and access protection services (mainly for women and the most vulnerable individuals).
-
An improvement in socioeconomic inclusion through support for job creation and income-generating activities.
The project is developed by the Norwegian Refugee Council in collaboration with COSV, TEC – Tripoli Entrepreneurs Club, and The Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering, and is funded by the French Development Agency and Danish Development Cooperation.
