Zimbabwe National Day at Expo

Milan – A Milan Expo 2015 Zimbabwe celebrated on August 31 its national day and this celebration was attended by the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mario Giro, and the Minister of Trade and Industry of Zimbabwe, Michael Bimha. Giro has underlined the importance of the participation of Zimbabwe to Expo 2015 with particular emphasis on the commitment of Zimbabwe in the field of renewable energy and environmental protection, “practices that can go hand in hand with the economic interests of a nation, and that can be a source of excellence within the national development plan.

The importance of cooperation between the two countries was emphasized by Undersecretary more so in relation to the emergence of the sub-Saharan economies in recent times. Expo 2015, then, is another opportunity to strengthen cooperation and economic growth for both actors.

The subsequent intervention of the Minister of Trade and Industry of Zimbabwe Michael Bimha recalled the vast potential that Zimbabwe can express from an economic point of view, especially in some key sectors such as manufacturing, mining (the country is indeed one of the large extractors of gold, lithium, platinum and diamonds), agriculture and tourism.

The day also saw the performance of songs and dances of the local tradition.

In the afternoon, at the Expo Conference Centre, the Business Forum was held with the participation of the Confederation of Zimbabwean Industries, the Tourism Authority and the Authority for Investment in Zimbabwe, and – on the Italian side – Ambassador Enrico DeAgostini and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan and the Italian Pavilion.

Even in this context it had been emphasized the importance of the partnership with Zimbabwe in order to benefit bilaterally from the opportunities of investments and economic development, reserving a special and innovative role to the international cooperation sector and its operators, called today to act as a connection-provider between the non-profit sector and the profit, in an attempt to trigger concrete development processes and sustainable over time.
