Sustainable Development Goals: a challenge for NGOs

The last 13th October, at Milan University, was held the convention “We are world’s suburbs” on Medical Cooperation in Africa, organised by World Friends, Link2007’s partner.

In his relation, Paolo Dieci (Link2007’s President) addressed some issues that deserve a closer look, when speaking about development objectives. First and foremost, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) challenge for NGOs, with the necessary identification of the deep differences between 2000-2015 agenda and 2015-2030 one. The second theme concerns private sector’s role. Addis Abeba’s Conference on development funding, reaffirmed the concept already stated during the precedent international meetings: the aid to development remains an essential tool in the fight against poverty, but it is not enough. Another two tools minimum must be assumed as priorities: domestic resources mobilization and private (profit) sector role.

In the end, Paolo Dieci spoke about three key-concepts in the new development agenda: vulnerability, social exclusion and resilience.
