Good news from Addis Ababa

The delegates of the AOI (Association of the Italian organizations of international cooperation and solidarity); CINI (Italian Coordination of International Networks) and LINK2007 – Cooperation in Network, within the Italian delegation at the Third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa, positively value the commitments stated by the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

The presence of the Italy, as one of the few countries represented by the Head of Government, has been perceived as a positive signal and the Italian NGOs networks welcome the commitment to significantly increase the resources allocated to development aid, starting from the new Stability Law. The goal, stated Renzi, is to arrive to the next G7 – foreseen in 20017 in Italy – no more as the last country for the percentage of GNP assigned to international cooperation.

We endorse the statement of the Prime Minister on the moral and non-negotiable commitment to assist and save the migrants arriving on the Italian shores and the importance of projects aiming at building bridges between the migrant communities and their countries of origin. Addis Ababa conference confirms the scope and the complexity of the next years challenges. Our country can and must cover a significant role.
