Aim: This project supported the International Labour Organization’s EIIP program in the Aleppo governorate in Syria. The core aim was to address youth unemployment in post-conflict Aleppo by providing them the opportunity to enhance their skills through vocational training and apprenticeships in market relevant professions. The apprenticeships that were the central focus of this project, ensured that the beneficiaries’ skills were attuned to industry standards while bridging the interface between the employee and the employer.
Results: As a result of this program, 95 of 105 trainees (90.5%) could complete their skill development and apprenticeship trainings and become job-ready. 25% of those that completed their apprenticeships could secure jobs with the host companies. Further, the Inclusion metrics revealed exceeded targets with 27 women (28.4%) and 8 youths aged 18–16 participating. Persons with disabilities were also accommodated in the program and made job ready.
